THE YORKSHIRE MATCH.
LONDON, May 22.
The Australians were to have commenced a match at Sheffield to-day against the following Yorkshire team: — Brown, Tunnicliffe, Wainwright, Hirst, Haigh, Rhodes, Bairstow, Mitchell, Jackson, Dantori, and Lord Hawke ; but, owing to persistent rain, play was abandoned for the day.
May 23.
"When play started to-day in the match between the iVustialian Eleven and Yorkshire, at Sheffield, the weather was showery and the -\viekel heavy. The attendance was large.
Jones, Layer, and Johns, stood out of the Australians.
Howell and 7'rumblc opened the attack. The first wicket fell for 1. Trumper twice missed Tiinnicliffe before accepting a catch. The third wicket fell at 34. Denton and Jackson then got together, and at the luncheon hour had carried the score to 83.
During the adjournment a heavy storm swept over Sheffield, and play had to be abandoned for the day.
Yorkshire have lost three wickets for S3 Scores : —
May 24. Owing to the continuance of wet weather the match against Yorkshire was abandoned. Yorkshire's first innings was not proceeded with. Trumble took two wickets for 35,
Howell one for 24.
Major Wardill, in the name of the Australian team, wrote to Mr Chamberlain expressing good wishes for the Queen's Birthday.
