KOKONGA.

November B.— High gales and duststorms are the order of the day just now. To be told that it is normal weather in Olaso Central makes it none the less disagreeable. One longs for a breath of air unadulterated with fine dust, small sand, and stones.

Agricultural. — The weather is very unseasonable, but notwithstanding that fact the crops are locking faitly well. This state of affairs is due to the fine rains we had last month. During October it rained < on 21 days, the rainfall for the month being 3"72 in.

Railway. — Matters on the railway have come to a ki&d of standstill for the present. By the time these notes appear in print tbe ballasteis will all have been paid off acd a general striking of tents will have taken place % The line is ballasted as far as the Taieri Budge, and until that is finished the gravel pit will be foisaken. Fortunately, however, work has been found for the married men in the cutting immediately beyond the bridge, so that 1 hough the single men have goue, all tho families will remain in the district.

Telephone— A petition has just been vound the district for signatures, having for its object tbe establishment of a telephone office iv Kokonga. This petitiou is now before the Post Office department in Wellington, and the reauit is looked forward to with interest.
