WAIKAIA

November 9.— Our annual concert in aid of tbe school came eff on Friday last, and was a most decided success. The various items on the jkogramme were well rendered, Misses Carroll, Taylor, Branigan, and Edwards receiving repeated encores. I must not omit to mention the children, who went through their paits in a most creditable manner, especially in the maypole dance, showing thaf their teachers must have taken great pains to get them proficient. Ibelieve there will be something over £11 for the benefit of the school. CmcKEr. -A cricket match was played here to-day between the Waikaia and Gore teams. The representatives of Gore were : Baker, Kobson, Doig, Cowan, Martin, Moody, Garrick, King, Simson, Copeland, and Taylor. Waikaia: Christie Bradmore, Hameij Mstheson, Hutchiason, Hazeldine, H. Jardman, A. Hard- . man, E. Hardman, Brewer, and Black. The Gore team won by seven wickets. The scores were :—: — Gore, 80 ; W»ikaia, 53 and 97 for eight wickets, when tke inminsrs w.as declared closed on account of time, which left Gore 71 to get to win, which they succeeded ia doi»g with the loss of three wickets, owing to the splendid play of Doig, who scored 53 of the required number. The most successful bowlers were, for Gore — Garrick, Doi«r, *nd Simson; and for Waikaia, Christie and

_Hamor. The weather wjs showery during tue da3 r , and the Waikaia players had rather the worst of the luck, as the showers canio during the time their opponents were at the wickets.

Angling. — i ur anglers have been doing a little better lately, as the fl»er is now "gettiun into better trim. Mr Moft'ett has had a few good bags of from 91b to 101b. W.
