Notes from Reefton. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Reefton, December 17.

Stock Exchange report :— "To-day's battery returns are those from the Alpine, Globe, and

Cumberland, giving C67oz of amalgam from the plates. A partial cleaning up at the last-named battery gave 2370z retorted gold for three weeks crushing (plates only), and crushing is being steadily continued. On Thursday last the Big River battery resumed, and the result should be to hand towards the end of next week, and a substantial one at that. There are no returns from the Progress or Wealth yet. The mining news coming to hand is all very fairly satisfactory, and in one or two instances improvement and encouraging developments are noticeable. Share business has been too limited to suit either dealers or brokers, although there are a few buyers about to-day and lines hard to get hold of at quotations. Neither Big River or Cumberland have been operated in much, and. Globe keeps about the usual quotations. Hercules, Edward, and No. 2 Dark without change, but each have occasional inquiry. Progress, Russell, and Success are at last week's figures, while Drake are much firmer* at a slight advance on what has ruled for some time past. Specimen Hill are again in demand within the last couple of days, sellers asking close up to 3s. Alpine and New Welcome are unaffected." « Battery returns :— Cumberland, loloz amalgam from 85 tons ; Globe, 1420z from 190 tons ; Progress, 1330z from 130 tons.
