MISCELLANEOUS.
On the goldfields matters (writes our Auck-f land correspondent of the 12th) are tolerably quiet but steady. The' yield of the past month is about 4000oz. Nothing has yet come of the proposals to prospect the deep levels of. the [>Lower Thames goldfield. The scientific appliances now being used in the mines at the Upper I Thames are bringing out better results than
formerly. By the 'Frisco mail word has been received that a company called the New Zealand Prospecting Syndicate (Limited) is being formed and registered to send out a metallurgist and mining engineer to report on the Pahipuhi silver-field properties submitted to them on terms. If the report be favourable it will, no doubt, lead to English capital being brought into develop the mineral resources of the Puhipuhi.
The directora of the Dunedin No. 2 Gold Dredging Company have made a call of Is per share.
The directors of the Roxburgh Amalgamated Mining and Sluicing Company announce that the third dividend is now payable. We (Western Star) have been informed that the Longwood Sluicing Company have been gettiDg encouraging prospects lately. The company have shown great enterprise, have spent a lot of money, and we sincerely trust they will be richly rewarded for their pluck and energy.
