WAIKAKA.
September 15. — Small Bird-poisoning. — Just a short time since, one or two farmers laid strychnined turnip seed and wheat along hedge rows where the birds were numerous. In one instance, at least, they did not touch the seeds. Whether this was due to the preparation or abundance of other food, I cannot say. Anyhow, it was disappointing. This experience should not, however, lead others here not to attempt to poison the feathered depredators. Where danger to fowls is apprehended the poison could be laid on small improvised plates, and these placed on the hedges. " Agricultural. — Previous to Wednesday last ploughing was suspended for more than a week on account of the wel and very boisterous weather. Notwithstsinclnig that our farmers are well forward with their ploughing, and should the weather be fine for two or three weeks, sowing will probably be completed hi good time. Our farmers do not care, except when they have a great deal of it to do, to sow before the middle of thi3 month.
Bible-class. — The > Rev. W. Wright has started a Bible-class here. Needless to say it is well attended.
