WAIWERA.

September 15. — Farm operations are still at a standstill in consequence of the continued' unsettled state of the weather. All the crops that were sown before the recent rains are looking remarkably well, especially the wheat. 'A large number of lambs havebeendropped already, and as feed is plentiful, they' have so far done well in most cases. The lambing will not, how.ever, be general for some time yet.

Angling. — The approach of the fishing season is causing quite a stir amongst our sportsmen. Inquiries and personal inspection have alike failed to enable me to report a plentiful supply of fish in our far-famed river so far: and in addition to this unfavourable state of affairs X am informed that several of our farmers who have long river frontages are refusing to allow anyone to fish on their properties without special permission from the proprietors. Legal advice is, I believe, being taken on different points in connection with this matter, to prevent any mistake on the part of proprietors.
