Mr Donald Stronach (on behalf of ihe New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited) reporte for the. week ending July 4 as follows :— Fat Cattle. — 160 head wero forward for this week's supply. About halt this number were good to prime quality, the balance only medium, without any improvement in values ; whilbt prime beef advanced from 2s 6d to 6s per 1001b on last week's quotations. Bullocks brought from £6 12a 6d to £13 2s 6d ; cows, £3 5a to £7 !5s We sold a draft on account of Mes-rs Cullen and Herbert and others at quotations ; and quote prime beef at 25s to 27s Gd, medium 17s 6d to 20s per 1001b. Fat Sheep.-— 2311 were penned ; of those about 400 were merinos, and the balance crousbreds of fair aveia,-e quality. 1 ast week's prices wero well rnaint lined, and in a few instances a shade higher was obtained. Fat Pigs.— l 47 were forward, comprising suckers, porker^, and heavy bacon pigs, bringing for suckers up to 6s ; porkers, 20s to 755 ; and up to 100s for one extra heavy pig. Store Cattle and Sheep — We have no change to report in thi3 desciption of stock. Sheepskins. — We offered a good catalogue at our usual biile on Monday, consisting chiefly of butchers' green skins, and, under spirited competition, prices obtained weie a shade over last week's. Green crossbreds fetched from 2s 7d to 3s lid; do merinos, Is 101 to Ss 6d ; dry pelts, 2d to Is 5d Rabbitskin.-<.— Wo submitted a small catalogue on Monday. Competition way again animated, and the lots di-posed o( at for suckers, inferior and mixed, 2d to 8d ; medium, Is to Is 2d ; large, well-furred skins, and free from fat, Is 3d to Is 4Jd per lb. More care should be taken in folding these skins, and it should be done in such a way as to prevent any part of the fur comiDg in contact with the fat often left on the flesh side. By attending to this, the fur keeps clean and in good order. • Hides.— Values are unaltered, and all coming to hand are easily disposed of at 3d to 4d for light and medium, 4Jd for good, heavy, clean hides, and 4Jd for extra heavy. Tallow.— Prices were easier on Mondaj. We s.old 1 bag at 265, 1 cask at 21s 6d, 1 do at 245, 2 do at 275, 2 ao at 27s Gd, 3do at 28s, and passed 9do at 325. We sold rough fat at 22s per cwt. Grain.— Wheat of superior quality is in fair demand, but secondary lots are almost unt-aleable. We quote prime milling, 4s 2d to 4s 3d ; fair to good, if hard and fr«e from sprout, 3s 9d to 4s ; medium, 33 3d to 3s 6d ; fowls' wheat and inferior, 2s to 3s. Oats are only in limited demand, and prices easier. We quote best milling, bright and stout (which are not in oversupply), at l-> lOd ; bright short feed. Is 8d to Is 9d ; medium, Is fid to Is 7d ; inferior and discoloured, Is to la 6d. Good bright feed only fetched Is 6d at I auction this week. Barley: Prime samples fit for malting are in request at from 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; but medium sorts are dull of sale. Ry grass Seed is moving off but slowly at— for machine-dresaed, 4s 3d ; farmers lots, 3s to 3s 3d.

Messrs Wrioht, Stefhenson, and Co. report for the w«ek ending July i aa follows : - Fat Cattle — This week's supply was a moderate ono, only 160 head being yarded, including a very prime draft of bullocks and cows from Gladbrook, which averaged— for the bullocks, £11 2j per head, and for the cows £8 33 6d. These, with the exception of two very prime bullocks from Invermay, were the oulv first class cattle in, and they were eagerly competed for at an advance of 2s Cd per 1001b on last week's I priceß. We sold 67 head as follows :- On account of James Gow, Esq (Invermay), 1 3 head bullocks at up to £13 2s 6d per head, and heifers at up to £6 12s Cd : for Mr W. Little (Palmerston), 7 cows at from £6 5s to £7 ; for Mr Geo. M'Leod (Palmerston), 7 bullocks at from £5 1 -"8 6d to £C 6s ; from Awa Moa Estate, i 0 cows at from £6 7s 6d to £7 16s ; and for Messrs D. Abernethy, Jas. Alexander. Jas. Fagan, W. Irvine, and othera, Bheadcowsatupto£6per head. We quote really prime beef at from 25s to 27s 6d per 1001b ; medium, 17s 6d to 20s. We have to report the sale privately of 150 head of Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co.'s noted Gladbrook cattle for forward delivery to Mr S. G. Smith, of the City Butchery. Fat Sheep.— The market was well stocked, 2311 being penned. Many of the butchers having a number on hand from last week, biddings came slowly, and prices, with one or r.wo exceptions, were about a shilling a head easier than they were la3t week. Our sales comprised : For Messrs James Smith and Sons (Greenfield Estato), 460 prime maiden crossbred ewes at 15s, and 81 do (smaller) at 14s ; for William Gardiner, Eaq. (Tapui Downs), 200 prime merino wethers at 11s ; and for Messrs T. Golden and Co. (Wyndham), 148 crossbreds (medium quality) at 12a 9d. We quote prime mutton at from 2Jd to 2fd perlb. Fat Lambs. — 150 penned, and sold at up to 9s each. Pigs.— 147 came forward, and were quickly disposed of at prices satisfactory to breeders. We sold 37 as follows :— Bacon pigs — six at 69s each, eight at 61s Od.four at 68s, five ac 525, two at 665, 11 small stores at 15s, and ono extra heavy pig at 102s (id— prices equal to 5d per lb. Horsea. — For young heavy draught mares and geldings there is a brisk demand, at prices which should encourage breeders to send their stock to market ; light-harness horses, on the other hand, aro difficult to sell. On Saturday last we sold several useful draughts, for export to Sydney, on account of Messrs Thornburn Brothers (Waikouaiti), H. Blackio (Waitahuna), John Blackie (East Taieri), G. E. Charlton, and others. Young mares fetched up to £41 10s, and geldings up to £34 We quote fir^t-class draughts at from¥£Ss to £45; medium, £26 to £30 ; light do, £16 to £20 ; good hacks and light-harneßS horsos, £15 to £20 ; medium, £10 to £12 ; light and inferior, £3 to £7.

Wool.— Since our last report no cablegrams of any note havo been received from London. Locally there n very little doing in this product. We sold a few oiki lots at lass Monday's skin sale. Sheepskins.— We held our weekly sale on Monday. It was well attended by the trade, nnd fair prices were realised for every lot offeredi Town butchers' green slum 1 Crnssbreds sold at 3s lid, 3a lOd, 3a 9i, 3s 7d, 3* Cd, 33 sd ( 3s 3d, 3s Id, 2s lid, 2s 9d, at.d 2s 8d ; and meiinoa at from 2s 7d to 3s sd. Country skins sold at from la Id to 4 < Sd. ' Hides continue in good demand. Heavies are readily placed at up to 4W pet lb, otheia at from 3-1 to 4d per lb. This week we have sold 71. Tallow. — We did not offer any this week. Giain.— Wheat: The market is very inactive— at present only prime samples of Tuscan and velvet being inquire'! for. The demand for second qualities ;vnd fowls' wheat ia almost nil. This week we havo p'acad 4100 bushels. We quote Tuscan, velvet, and red straw (free from sprout) at from 4g to -is 3d per bushel ; ordinary, 3s 8d to 3s lid ; medium, 3=s 3d to 3s Cd ; fowls' wheat, 2s (id to 3s. Mossrs Maolban and CO. report for tho weok ending July 4 as follows :—: — Fat Oattle. -The number yarded to-day at Bnrnsido was 150 head, of Which only about 50 wore prime, the bilance f'irtogood. Competition for prime quality was biisk. and an advance of from 2s 6d to 5s was obtained. This latter price may be quoted for sevoral puns of an extra prime draft from the Gladbrook Estate ; but, taking the market as a whole, it showed an advance of quite 2a Cd on last week's rates. Prime bullocks broiu-tit from £9 to £13 2s 6d ; fair to good, £410 ato £7 15s; cows, Worn M 6s to £7 !ss. We vardfd 51, and sold them as fallow's : — On account of Mr William Kelly (Stirling), 15 head lijrht-weij/ht bullocks ar, from £6 6s to £7 2a 6d ; on account of JMV J. 11. Smith (Oamaru), 60 crns'-breds at from 14s to 14s 9d ; on account of the New Z -aland and Australian Land Company (from their Clydevale Estate), 200 crossbred ewes at from 13s to 14s ; on account of Messrs J. Templeton and .Co., .JOl. J Ol crosbbreds at from 10s 6d to 12s 9d ;on account of Mr J. Geggie (Puerua), 152 do at 10d 9d ; and on account of Mr W. Miller (Mount Stuart), 24 do at 13s 3d, and 11 merinos at 8s 6d. We quote prime mutton 2£d per lb. Fat Lambs. — 155 were penned to-day, and which wo sold on account of Mr James Lamond (Waitepeka), at from Hi 6d to 9s. Fat Pigs — 147 were yarded, and sold at for suckers, 63 to 103 ; porkers, 20s to 35s ; bacon pigs, up to £5. Store Cattle.— Fifty head were yarded at Burnside to-day. We sold 25 as follows— viz , eighteenmontha'old steers and heifers at up to 255, aud 2£-vear-old steers and heifers, £2 15s. Country Sales. — We held a clearing sale at Lookout Point on the 28bh June, on account of Mr T. M. George, when there was a large attendance of buyers, and every line cleared at satisfactory prices. We also held our monthly sale at Balciutha last Friday, with the usual attendance of buyers and also a very large number of stock, but on account of the scarcity of feed graziers were loth to operate at prices expected by vendors, and the result was that about 20HO s-heep had to be turned out unsold. Hor=es.— On Saturday last the demand was somewhat nlack for draughts as compared with the past few weeks. Doubtless this was owing to the fact that the Sydney buyers have been engaged shipping and completing their present orders. At our sale held as usual in our yards, Dunedin Tattersalls, we offered a large number of entries of all descriptions, and sold the greater portion as follows — viz., first-class draughts brought from £30 to £40 ; medium, £20 to £27 ; good hacks and light-harness horses, £12 to £17 ; medium, £7 tOs to £11 10s. Sheepskins.—We held our usual weekly sale on Monday last, when we submitted a fair number of skins of all descriptions. The demand was brisk, and a considerable improvement in price, compared with last week, was obtained. The attendance was large, the ordinary buyers beiner present. Dry crossbreds brought from Is 4d to 3s 6~d ; merino, 2s 3d to 2s lOd ; skins in bales, 4Jd per lb; butchers' crossbreds, 3s 2d to 3s 6d ; merinos, 2s 7d to 3s 4d ; lambskins, 3s 3d. Rabbitskins. — We submitted various lots at our sale held on Monday last, and obtained the following piicea — viz., suckers, 2d per lb ; and well-furred winter skins, Is 4d per lb. Hides and Tallow.— Recent quotations remain unaltired. We have no sale 3 during the week to report Grain. — Wheat : For prime samples there continues a fair demand, but for inferior inquiries are not brisk. The prices given in last week's report apply to-day — viz: for choice milling, 4s 3d; prime, 4s to 4s 2d ; ordinary, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; fowl feed, 2s 6d to 3a 2d Oats : The market is quiet, unlea3 for prime milling, which would fetch Is 9£d to la lOd ; heavy bright feed, Is 8d to Is 9d ; ordinary, Is 4d to Is 6d ; discoloured, 1b to Is 3d per bushel; Those prices have been ruling at public sales during the week. Seed oats of really prime quality and pure are in request. Barley : Unless prime malting parcels, there is little demand, brewers not being at all anxious for i-econdary quality. We quote prime up to 4s 6d; medium, 3s to 4s ; feed, 2s 6d to 3s. Potatoes.— Present values are £2 5s per ton, unless for kidneys for seed, which would fetch £4 per ton.

We quote best beef 25s to 27s 6d ; medium, 20i per 1001b. Privately we sold 50 head at full rates. Fat Calves. - Only three in. Those sold at 21s each. Fat Pigs. — 147 penned. The bulk of these were stores, which sold well, while bacon pigs and porkers were firm at late prices. We penned 111, and sold — for Mr J. Allan (Timaru), 42 at 18s to 68s ; for Mr A. Steel (Waihola), 4at 20s ; for Mr J W Harrison, 65 at 15s to 755. We quote prime pork 4J-d per lb. Fat Sheep.— To-day's market was supplied with 400 merinos of good and prime quality, and 1911 crossbreds, a fair proportion of which were in good condition. The sales opened at fully last week's rates, and showed a rise of Is to Is 6d towards the close. Merino wethers sold at 9s Od to 10s 9d ; do ewes, 8s ; crossbred wethers, 12s 6d to 15s 9d ; do owes, 10s 6d to 14s 9d. We sold for General Fulton, 102 crossbreds at 12s to 14s 6d, 38 merino ewes at Ss ; for Mr Angus Steel (Waihola), 30 crossbreds at 13s ; for Mr A. Cameron (Mataura), 43 crossbreds at 14s Gd, and 22 do at 11s 6d ; for Mr J. Marshall (Gore), 33 croS3breds at 14s 3d. We quote mutton 2Jd per lb. Fat Lambs.— l6s came in. There is but little demand for lamb, and prices are rather in favour of buyerß. Best sold at 9s 3d ; others, 7s to 8s 9d. Wool.— On Monday we disposed of all consignment forward as follows :— CO, 1 bale crossbred, G£d ; Ido merino, 7£d ; 1 do pieces, 4d : 1 bag do, 3.} d ; X in circle, 1 bale crossbred, 6i{d ; T, 3 bags merino pieces, 6}d ; 2 do crossbred do, 63d ; 1 do washed merino, li{d ; fl, 2 bales merino slipo, SJd ; 1 do crossbred do, 7d ; nF (conjoined), 3 bags crossbred, sd ; V, 1 bale slipo, Srda, 4d ; Ido crossbred, 7d. Sheepskins. — At our regular sale we offered a fair catalogue of butchora' green skins. The demand was quite equal to all offering, prices ruling slightly higher. Crossbreds fetched 2s 6d to 3s lOd ; merino, Is 4d to 4s ; country dry skins, 9d to 3s lid ; lambskii'S, 2s 9d to 3s 8d each. Rabbitskins.— Wo catalogued a few lots on Monday. There was a keen demand for well-got-up skins, which realised 16Jd. Hides.— Tho demand is rather slack for medium weights, but heavies are wanted at, Bay, last week's prices.

Tallow.— ln this market prices are a shade easier, but for' rough fat prices are firm.
