Second Day.

Oamaru, October 3rd. The weather to-day waa very fine at the commencement of the second day's racing at Duntroon, but a perfect storm arose during the afternoon. It was at its heisrht when tha ConBolatioußace was run, aDd all present wsre glad when the programme was brought to a close. The attendance was not nearly so large as on tlie firat day, but tho sport was very good, nearly all the events being closely contested. The fields were, however, small, owiDg to the number of scratchings. Tne Hurdle Race was a very pretty one, all the horses taking then* jumps remarkably well. Owing to having injured one of bis legs, Black Prince was scratched, and Te Whetu was made a hot favourite at 2 to 1. He justified the confidence reposed in him by winning pretty easily. Loyalty ran a good horse for some time, but had to subside when the pace became hot. Both Robin Hood and Little John struggled hard to defeat the favourite, but though they ran well they had not sufficient foot etr staying powers to enable them to keep pace with Te Whetu. Of the nine horses on the ord for the Waitaki Jockey Club Handicap, five were scratched, and Soukar was not present. Maritana was served up very warm, and was backed at 6 to 4 on her, but Raugatira had a few friends, white Chancellor was neglected altogether. Maritana ran remarkably well, and won without turning a hair. For the Champagne Stakes only four of the ten on the card came to the post. Piafire was made a hot favourite, while Libeller had a few friends. York, who proved to be the winner, could have been bad at almost any price, 5 to 1 against him being freely offered without any backers being obtained. The Consolation was well contested, though the storm, previously mentioned, interfered greatly with a good visw of it being: obtained. The arrangements were again excellent, and all concerned are to be corai'limentud upon the successful mauner in which they carried through the meetiig. The following is a detailed account of the several eveuts : — Hamdicap Hurdlb Pace, 60 aovs. Two ttiles, over .eight flights of hurdles.

Loyaltyled over the third hurdle, followed by Robin Hood and Te Whetu, Little John still running some distance jjin the rear. The next jump was taken in the same order, but before reaching the stand the whole of the horses had got well together, and raced into the Btraight in a cluster. Loyalty was slightly in front and took the hurdle first, Te Whetu and Romance following together close at his heels, and Robin Hood and Little John immediately after them. The hones raced ia this order for some little disUnc\ the hurdle at the back of the course dicing taken almost simultaneously by Te Whfitu, Loyalty, Romanes, and Little John, Robin Hood being Rlightly behind. Coming up to the last hurdle Te Whetu drew away, and made the pace much warmer. The others struggled on after him, but the only two that could get sear him were Robin Hood and Little John. At tb« back of the course Unknown, who had been running second, fell back, and Pinfice and Libeller began to improve their pcsstiona, but they oald not overtake York, who was landed a comfortable winner.
