Summer Fair.

A SPLENDID SUCCESS,

A sale of work m aid of the Methodist new parsonage fund was opened by 'Mr J. C. Thomson, M.H-R., on Wednesday afternoon last. The " Summer Fair, "as it was called, was held m the Ofcaufcau Town Hall on Show Day and the day following, and was well patronised both m the afternoon and ; evenings. On the opening day the crowd waa so great that the articles could not be properly inspected. The sum of £60 was realised as the result of the proceedings of the first day, and £30 for the second day. The following is a list of the stalls and stallholders : — The plain work stall wag well furnished with useful articles and was presided over by Mesdames Steele, Parmenter, Cleverley and Ferrar. The fancy work made a beautiful display. Mrs Beckett; assisted by Misses Moore, Miller, Bear, Glynn, and K. Walker, carried on the most successful stajl. Mis 3 Baker assisted by Miss Corkhill, dispensed fruit and confectionery from a very pretty kiosk. The fish pond was a great attraction, and Misses Lee and Rowe brought many a good -fish to land, to the entertainment of young and old, The Christmas tree was well provided with toys, and Misses Parmenter and Mary Walker had the pleasure of giving joy to many a little one. A most important department was the refreshment room.' Here Mesdames Harrington, Walker, Evans, Corkhill, and Miss Walker were kept very busy, ample justice being done to the good things provided. The shooting gallery was a great attraction to the young men, and some good records were made. Messrs Parmenter and G. and Wm. James rendered yeomen service here. A fine assortment of dairy produce made a useful stall. This was under the charge of Messrs Clent and Hazlett. The beautiful model of the Tabernacle m the Wilderness, the work of Mrs Oarrick and her Aparima girls, was on view m one of the side rooms. Messrs Cleverly and S. James also worked hard m seeing the nail-driving competition through. Last, but not least, the faithful doorkeepers, Messrs Baker, Cleverly, and Templeton, took good care that all who passed into the hall paid their"way. The Otautau Brass Band rendered several selections each evening, which were much appreciated. Ono and all did their best, the utmost harmony and goodwill prevailing. At the conclusion of the Fair* Mr Beckett, on his own behalf and on that of his officers, thanked all those who had helped m making the Fair such a great success.
