Drowning Accident at Lumsden.

A sad drowning accident occurred at Lumsden on Saturday j m which Mr Robert Watson, overseer of Castlerock, lost his life. He was m Lumsden on business on Saturday afternoon, and/ left for home between seven and eight o'clock m the evening. The river wad very high, but Mr Watson, having had gi-eat'lexperience m fording it, thought little of the flooj|. The force of the water, had, however, shifted the ford, aid the deceased, getting into deep water, was swept from the saddle by the current. Mr Watson lived with his sister, who waited for him until five o'clock on Sunday, antf then, fearing that an accident had occurred, went to the homestead and rou3ed Mr Barnhill,who at once took steps to institute a search. He went m one direction himself, aud sent a shepherd to the river, The shephjerd first found the riderless horse standing near a gate, and, after a short search, discovered the body -oT deceased on a gravel spit, about 400 yards below the spot where he entered the river. The body was conveyed to Lumsden, where an inquest wil be held.
