For several years the Presbyterian Church has held an examination, open to Sunday School scholars m connection with that church, all over the colony. Ten scholars from the Otautau Sunday School entered for the last competition, and were successful m securing five firstprizes, four seconds, and one third . A big demonstration for the distribution of the prizes was held m Invercargill on Friday evening; at which several hundreds of Sunday School scholars were present. Nine Otautau scholars, under the care ofthe superintendant of the school, went into Invercargill on Friday afternoon to attend same, and were most enthusiastically received, as they represented the scholars present from the greatest distance. On Saturday, indebted to the courtesy of hte Mayor of Invercargill, Mr W. B.Scandrett, the party were conducted through the Invercargill water- works, and ascended the tower, after which Mr • Scandrett accompanied them to the Museum and Athensßum. Mr D. Eingsland, of Messrs Eingsland and Son, the wellknown confectioners, personally conducted the party over his extensive confectionery works, and interestingly explained the various processes iof manufacture of sweets, biscuits, eto. Messrs J. G. Ward and Co's extensive warehouse was also visited,* and their seed cleaning plant seen m full working order. The gardens were alio visited, and m the afternoon the party went to the Military Carnival. The best of weather was experienced, and the trip was a most enjoyable one.
