FOOTBALL.

4l match was played at Riverton, on Wednesday last, between the combined teams of and Otautau versus Orepuki and Colac, "and at the conclusion, of the game the team to represent the Western district against the Eastern district was chosen. The ground was m good order* and a large number of spectators wore present. The Greens won the toss, and decided to play with the wind. Printz kicked off for the Reds, the ball being well returned by Robertson. Some loose play followed, the ball behjg carried to the Green's 25, where the Reds were awarded a free kick for an infringement, from which L. Printz kicked a splendid goal. From the kick out the Green's forwards put more dash into their play, and succeeded m foroihg their opponents twice m quick succession. Shortly after half-time was called, the score being Reds 3 points, Greens nil, On the resumption of play, the ball was taken to the Red's 25, but good work by their backs removed the scene of play well down the line, and the game from this on was kept m the Green's 25. From a rush E. Fallow speculated, and the ball being stopped by an opposing forward, Bennett picked up and scored. The ioK at goal was resultless. After -the kick-off, the Green's line was again invaded, and Molntyre succeeded m getting over, from whioh L. Printz registered the major points. From this on the Reds had decidedly the best of the game, and just before time was called, Forbes secured the ball from a scrum, and, passing to Hirst, allowed this player- to score, the kick at goal failing. Time was called shortly after, the score being Red* 14 points Greens nil. For the Reds, McKenzie, Charlton, and Printz played well. The latter showed too much of a tendancy to cling to the ball instead of passing, and this undoubtedly prevented the Reds froiri registering a bigger score against their opponents. Mclntyre, Printz, Dawson, and Bennett were the pick of an even lot of forwards. For the losers, the Lynch Bros., Gonley, Adam and Simpsou played well. The backs were decidedly off colour, and did not seem to know what to do with the ball when it came their way. De Joux, Kirk and Fallow were the pick of a poor lot of backs. The following is the team chosen to play against the Eastern district tomorrow, at InvercargiU: — Full-back, J. McKenzie (Colac) ; three-quarters, Charlton and Whelan (Orepuki) De Joux (Otautau); five-eighths, E. Fallow and W. J. Delaney (Riverton) ; half-back, Mcßobie (Otautau) ; forwards, M. Lynch (Otautau), Herbert H. Printz (Orepuki), Simpson (Riverton), L. and T. Lynch (Otantau), Adam (Riverton), Dawson fGolao), Emergencies: Backs S. H rst and D. Herbert (O epuki), J. Mclvor (Otautau; forwards, C. Bennett (Orepuki).
