THE STUD.

SALB OF A HIGH CLASS CLYDESDALE COLT.

Messrs Wright, Stephenßon and Co. report having sold, on account of Mr John j McFarlane, Drummond, the very superiorJ three-year-old Clydesdale colt, "Old Style,"' to Mr James Johns, Devonvale, Belfast, Canterbury.

Old Style is one of tbe best colts bred by Mr McFarlane for some years. Fe is a blood bay, standing 16.1, but is- of such substance and of such a nuggety build as to appear to the eye rather under than over 16 hands. Old Style m appearonce is the very essence of strength, being an unusually thick horse, with excellent quarters. At the ground he denotes the M» earth ur type of a draught horse, a quality which ie much sought after by buyers both m this colony and Australia Hi.ving H< rd Laddie blood on the one side and Miss Macarthur on the other. Old Style is undoubtedly a horse with a great future, and there is every reason ' to expect that bis name will be as widely known as that of his famous grands re (Herd Laddie). In Southland his show record is as follows : — Second at InvercargiU as a yearling, second at Riverton, first at Otautau and first at InvercargiU as a two year-old. It is only fair to add that at InvercargiU, Old Style beat the first prize horse shown against him at Riverton. The colt's pedigree is as follows: — Sire, Shepherd Lad by Herd Saddie. Shepherd Lad's dam Mapgie McCormack 11, g.-dam. j Bussell's Miss MCormack. The colt's dam I Miss Macarthur was the best brood mare m either Otago or Southland about 5 years ago, when she was awarded first and champion m a ring of 13, which included such mares as Pear, Princess, and Molly Macarthur. Miss Macarthur by Macarthur by Mao Bride (2987), bred by Mr Andrew Montgomery, Castle Douglas. Macarthur 's g.-sire McGregor was one of tbe champion breeding stallions m Scotland, and full brother to the famous Flashwood. Old Style's g*-dam Jean 11, by Western Star, by Prince of Wales (imp). Dam, Damsel (a 500 guinea mare), which was also the dam of Crown Prince. Needless to say it took a high figure to induce the owner to sell.
