RATING ON UNIMPROVED VALUE.

(To the Editor). Sir, — I read with great satisfaction Rate payer's letter on unimproved value. He ■ bite the nail on the head m advooating same. There are a few mt-n m Ottuton who are blind to their own int rests, when by Belling a section here and there out of their property, th;y nuturnlly raise the pruw of those left. There are plenty of young men about O anthU who are looking out for sections to build on. Why should they be debarred from becoming landlords because of a few who hold the majority of trie sections ? If the hotels are closed next election, it means more rattß to the willing few who have bnilt homes for themselvep. An unimproved vaiuc rato will help matters a g eat deal. I see by a letter received that Mi Jos. Swap, and onr i-nergetio town clerk, Mr John Fisher, and others y a-e culling a mr eting of tie residents of Otautau, Nightcaps and Wairio to try and s:art a building Bociey on th* Siarr Bowkeii principle.
