At the Y.M.C.A. strangers' tea yesterday afternoon Mr Horace Grocott addressed a large attendance members and visitors on "Bolivia," where he worked as a missionary for two and'a-half years. Ho pointed out the depths of depravity and superstition to -which the people had sunk, and made as his main point the fact that what education and training, with a view to civilising the people, had failed to do, his.experience was that the preaching of * the simple Gospel as contained in the Scriptures had done in many cases, some instajices bcinfr nothing short of miraculous. At the conclusion of the address Mr Niool, who occupied the chair, heartily thanked the speaker, his remarks being heartily endorsed by all present. A meeting of the committee of the Taieri Fruitgrowers' Association was held at Outram_ on Friday evening, air W. Robertson presiding. After discussing the rules, it was decided as a recommendation to the general meeting to allot shares on a five-acre basis. It having been ascertained that Mr Wilson (president of the Fruitgrowers' Federation) and Mr Shelton (secretary) were to visit Otago, the secretary was instructed to arrange, if the date suited, to call a general meeting and have those gentlemen present. A meeting of the Mornington School Band bazaar supporters was held on Saturday night, Mr John Thompson presiding over a large attendance. It was agreed to hold a bazaar in August. A committee of ladies -was appointed, with Mrs L. C. Storey as chairwoman and Mrs Caldwell as secretary. . •
