Her father —Mr Adam Blair, jun., of Stratford—was at Uluir's sawmill hauling logs to the mill by a locomotive- and trucks. The child was amusing herself by putting crossed nails on the line to be flattened by tho passing trucks. She evidently thought that tho last truck had passed, an 3 stooped to pick up naiis, and was struck by n> following truck, which passed over her, killing her instantly, in front of her mother, who came out of the house at that moment. A SHOOTING FATALITY. (Pb» Unitku Petes Association.l HAMILTON, August 2. An inquest on Hayman Elmers, aged 40 years, ot Marakopa, who died during an operation at the Waikato Hospital, was held on Friday. The evidence showed that, while out shooting in the bueh, the deceased rested his gun against a log, and the weapon slipped. He picked it up by the barrel, when it discharged itself, the shot entering and shattering his wrist. Ho travelled through tho bush all the next day, arriving at the Waikato Hospital on Friday night. After the operation blood was noticed oozing through the stitches, indicating- that tho artery had become unstitched, and the wound had reopened. The p'atient collapsed. Restoratives wore applied, but he died a few minutes later. A verdict was returned to the effect that death was due to shock from the wound and subsequently from the operation.

A very painful accident (says the Christchurch Sun) happened on Monday evening to a boy named James Hunt, a son of Mr Gregory Hunt. The boy was attempting to ride sl bicycle across a plank which was placed over a concrete creek, the bicycle slipped, and the lad was thrown heavily against the concrete, the fall rendering him unconscious. He was attended to by Dr Line, but it will be some weeks before he will be a.ble to get about again. A serious motor car accident occurred on Sunday week at Hinds (says the Timaru Eferald). A lady was driving at the time her husband sitting alongside of her. By some means the car capsized, turning completely over, with the result that the lady received some painful cuts about the face, besides suffering much from shock, and her husband had five ribs and an arm broken. It is understood that the occupants of the car belong to Waimate. Mr Henry Cr.ster met with a painful accident while riding a horse, which fell on him. Mr Coster was pinned tq the ground, where hp lay for five hours until rescued by Messrs Cameron and Samson, who, on hearing cries for help at 7 p.m., went to his assistance. On being released from his predicament (says the Quarry Hill correspondent of the Wyndham Farmer), Mr Cosfer was so numbed with cold and exposure as to be quite helpless.
