STEWART'S ISLAND.
(Fboh Oue Own Cohrespondent.)
Halfmoost Bat, March 19.
Nothing has transpired during the past fortnight concerning the Pegasus tinfields. I was shown a specimen of silver ore this morning which was found a day or two ago by one of the settlers. Verily, Stewart's Island is getting a good routing these times. Reynolds and party are hard at it, bub I don't kuow -what discoveries they have made.
The story of the unknown river found by a resident of Stewart's Island has caused a little excitement; but I think now the general opinion isthat the river is unknown, and. likely to remain so.
The weather here has been very bad for the past month, but it looks a little better to-day. Professor Black is expected back this week, and all here are auxions to hear wliat he lias to say.
Mr James TfoKnson, who is superintending the forming of tb* track to Pegasus, says that it is cow quite possftw for anyone to walkthrough, although the track is not quite finished. It is completed as far s.s the clear couutry on Table Hill; whence the remainder to Pegasus is easy.
