A SERIOUS CHARGE,

At the R.M. Court to-day, Duncan Gilchrist was charged with discharging a loaded gun at John M'Donald at Otepopo on the 21st inst. After partly hearing the evidence, the case was remanded till to-morrow on account of the prosecutor being too much under the influence of liquor to give further evidence. SALE OF WHEAT. It is reported that a line in wheat of several thousand sacks was sold to-day at a price c-qual to 4s per bushel here, sacks extra. THE OTEPOPO CONGREGATION. At a special meeting of the Presbytery of Oamaru to-day, the induction of the Rev. Mr Wright to the Otepopo congregation was fixed for Wednesday, 10th April. SALE OF RUNS. In a letter from Mr Duncan, M.H.R., to the Hon. G. F. Richardson, re the blunder at the sate of Otekaike runs, the following occurs :— " I now write to ask you to be good eaough to explain how the Otekaike bungle has occurred, and why you did not stop the sale and this swindle in time. I think a great mistake is being made in hurrying the sale of the Canterbury lands as proposed in April. There should be at least three months' notice, and also several weeks for the residents to look into the classification and see if this is done in a manner suitable to the localities and wants of the people in each district. I hear of several complaints about the water frontage being cut off the sections that are being prepared for sale in the last of the Kurow blocks, and the delay in having them sold. I have not got a plan yet, so I can't say how the sections are being cut up, but I think there has been unnecessary delay in this matter." CRICKET. The Ashley County cricket team defeated Oamaru Club in a one inning 3 match to-day by 13 runs. The visitors were entertained at a smoke concert to-night. They leave for Dunedin to-morrow morning, where they play matches against the Carisbrook and Phoonix.
