SHIPMENT OF BUTTER.
By the Rotomahana there was forwarded to Sydney one of the largest consignments of butter which have bairn exported for sometime. There were altogether 400 cases and 645 kegs in the shipment, about half of which was sent away by the New Zealand Dairy Association, while the greater portion of the balance was on account of several well-known shipper's. PERSONAL. Among the passengers for Sydney by the Rotomabana was Mr Murray, the general manager of the Bank of New Zealand,'who is about to visit Europe partly on account of health and partly on business connected with the bank. Mr Murray has been on sick leave for some time, but has during the past few weeks shown signs of considerable improvement, and it is hoped the long sea voyage will completely restore him to health. A HIGH TIME IN GAOL. Some of th« inmates of the Mount Eden Gaol seem to have a good time of it lately, as to-day Joseph Hand was charged at the Po'iico Court with having on the 15th or 16th of Match couimitted a breach of the Prisons Act by introducing to the Mount Eden prison tobacco, cigarettes, tooth powder, brushes, sugar, cheese, butter, apples, jam, preserved milk, pepper, writing paper, postage stamps, currant cake, and a flask of brandy for the Use of one of the female prisoners. THE UNEMPLOYED. Tho last of the unemployed were paid off at the stonebreaking works at Ellerslie last week. A batch of them appeared before the Charitable Aid Board to-day for work or relief. The board refused to employ them at gtonebreakiug, its last experiment in that live not being a happy one. Owing to tho stone being badly broken they had to resell it at half the ordinary rates, and in some cases the heaps of broken metal had contained in the centre (covered up) quantities of soil or rubble.
