Mr Berry in the Assembly stated that he ha examined correspondence and Acts of neighbour ' ing Colonies on the Chinese question, which he would submit to the conference (for which he had issued invitations) during the Exhibition. He hoped the result would be uniform legislation on the subject.

The Hon. Saul Samuel will leave for Eag: land by the s.s. Assam on the 25th. v; ' It is stated that a nugget weighing 140oz has been found at Temora.
It is feared that two-thirds of the sugarcane planted at Clarenca will perish through heavy frost*. It is hoped the drought has now ended, though water ia very scarce in many parts. :

QUEENSLAND.
The. Premier repudiates the statement.that the Government feared the responsibility of the position, and announced on the 7th that, in accordance with the opinion of the majority of the Assembly, he had telegraphed the aeoeptance of the mail contract. Tbe Opposition contend that the action is unjustifiable, and a dangerous precedent. The service commences in January.
