" {'lacking the pigeons" is an operation 1 freely indulged in by some people, but though many persons might l*c inclined to apply the term to the pressure being placed upon residents En the district by some, at least, of our banking institutions, it can I scarcely be said that bankers are entitled to | the title of " pigeon plnckcra." One of onr j bonk managers is apparently determined to : perform an operation of a more diabolical ! nature upon the pigeons which for some time j post have held possession of his bank. At | the meeting of the Municipal Council last | evening, Mr. Ales. Kerr, manager of the I local branch of the National Bank, by letter applied for permission to shoot the pigeons that infest the bank building to the manifest annoyance of the public. The writer stated that he had tried ever}- other method of | getting rid of them that Fie could think of, bnt without success. It was decided to reply that, under the special circumstances of the case, the Council would offer no objection to Mr. Kerr shooting the pigeons, but that it cottld give him no authority to do so, and that for this he must apply to the police, ft is to be hoped that the police will give Mr. Kerr permission to shoot the pigions, for they arc undoubtedly a public nuisance.
