CITIZEN'S DEATH

HON. J. TREVETHICK, M.L.C. • LONG ' PUBLIC SERVICE One of the former stalwarts of the Liberal Party and for the past nine years a member of the Legislative Council, the Hon. Jonathan Trivet hick, M.L.C., died at his home, 2 St. James' Square, yesterday afternoon. Mr. Trevethiek ]/ad been in failing health for some months and had been confined to his home for some days prior to his 'death. Mt. Trevethiek was born at Lostv iritliiel, Cornwall, in 1864. and came to iVew Zealand in ISBS with his wife, to whom he had been married shortly before sailing. On arrival in New Zealand be joined his brother in business at Lower Hutt, but in 1893 he .. came to Auckland and established a brush manufacturing business, which he carried on until 1927, when his son, Mr. J. C. Trevethiek, succeeded him. Mr. Trevethiek was elected to the Auckland City Council in 1910 and held a seat on that body until 1921, when he retired. Ho also served as a member of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Hoard, and for 34 years rinht up to the time of his death he had beeii associated .with the administration of the Auckland Sailors' Home, being president for two periods. He had also been a - member of tlio Board of Trustees of the Auckland Savings Bank. He had been a justice of the peace for 33 years. '■, The late Mr. Trevethiek had long i been associated with the Liberal Party and for some years- was chairman of the Auckland provincial council of the party. In 1927, when the United Political Organisation was formed, ho became president of the Auckland Provincial executive, an office which lie liolcl until his appointment to the Legislative Council in 1930. .Mr. and Mrs. Trevethiek celebrated their golden wedding last year. In addition to his widow, Mr. Trevethiek is survived by one son, Mr. J. C. Trevethiek, and 'four daughters, Mrs. G. Wickstead, of Wellington, and Mrs. ]). Menzies. Mrs. P. Olson, and IN I rs. , * J. Dickey, of Auckland. The funeral will take place at Purewa Cemetery this afternoon.
