HAPPINESS CLUB
THE NEW DIRECTOR AFTERNOON RECEPTION An afternoon reception by members of the Auckland Happiness Club to welcome their new director, Miss Joan Sutherland, was hold in the "Farmers' Trading Company Tearooms yesterday. About .'iOO members were present, representing 12 branches, while special guests included the Mayoress, Lady Davis, Mrs. John Griffiths, Mrs. Donne and Miss L. King. The chairman for the afternoon was Mrs. W. J. Hinds, president of the Grey Lynn branch, who said the members welcomed this opportunity of meeting Miss Sutherland personally. Lady Davis also wished Miss Sutherland success as the club's new director, and hoped that she would realise her aim of obtaining 10,000 members before Christmas. Songs were sung by Mrs. Woodhnins, Mrs. Audrey Walker and Mrs. Ernest Asher, and recitations by Mrs. Holdsworth. Bouquets were presented to Lady Davis, Miss Sutherland and the other guests of honour, and after tea had been served the new director visited the various tables to meet the members personally.
