RAILWAY DISASTER
| r RIVER BEFORE SHERIFF CULPABLE HOMICIDE CHARGE LONDON. Feb. 9 The driver of the Edinburgh-Glasgow express, David Anderson, which was involved in a disastrous accident at Castlecary, a village 13 miles from Glasgow, on December 10, appeared privately before the Dumbartonshire sheriff to-day. Anderson, who was charged with culpable homicide, was released on bail.
The accident, which was the result of a signal error, caused the deaths of 35 passengers and the.injury of 90. The express was travelling at 60 miles an hour through a raging blizzard and crashed into a stationary DundeeGlasgow train. It was the worst aceidfcnt since the Gretna Green troop trains' smash in 1915, when 227 people were killed and 250 injured.
