There were a few gallops on the course proper, where the flags were out 40ft., but most of the -work took place on the plough, which was a little heavy. Old Surrey, who is working in his best style, went well oyer seven furlongs, which Quadroon also covered solidly. Bluffer ran a fast six furlongs, while Dunmanway, Laughing Lass and La Premiere showed up over shorter distances. '

Laughing Lass (J. Pratt) ran the last three of four furlongs in 37 l-ss. She has done well since racing at Trentham and may regain her best form at Wanganui.

Silver River worked over a mile and a-quartcr and came home the last three furlongs in 40s. He continues to please in his preparation ,for the South Auckland circuit. Alby completed his round of pace work by running three furlongs in 40s. Yadanoe (Chaplin). shaded Ambition (Howe) over five furlongs in 1.6 2-5, running the first three in 39 2-ss. Copy Cat (Waddell) covered the same distanco in 1.7. It was a good effort, as she always does best in company. Old Surrey (Johnston), after running the first half-mile in 51 2-ss, completed seven furlongs in 1.33. Ho waa stopping a little at the finish. Quadroon (Howe) went evenly throughout seven furlongs in 1.33 2-5, the first half-mile in 53 3-ss. On the course proper Selkirk took 26 3-5s to run two furlongs up the straight. He is lazy when -working alone;. The maiden Premiere ,(Bromlpy), showed a. nice; turn of pace over three furlongs in 37'3-ss. 1 *

Sprint by Rarotonga j Rarotonga; after a slow beginning, completed, three furlongs'in 395. Fair Day'covered the same ground in 39 3-os. Ho was td have gone - with Taillight, but the latter jumped off. with an advantage of about five lengths and was steadied, finishing, under a hold to take 39 4-ss. 1 Brazil was under <a good hold throughout three furlongs -in 40 l-ss.
