PICTORIAL FEATURES THE MOHAKA VIADUCT INTER-ISLAND RUGBY TEAMS Pictures of the official ceremony held to mark the completion of the railway viaduct over the Mohaka River arc published in the main illustrated section of 'L'hk Weekly News," on sale today. The photographs include two views of the giant structure, and one of the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, driving the last rivet.
Last week's heavy rain resulted in floods in North Auckland, and AMiangarei, with a rainfall of 11 in. in 48 hours, suffered one of the worst floods in its history. A page of photographs depicts typical scenes in A\ hangarei, Warkworth and on the Mangalcahia Gorge.highway, where the airua River overflowed its banks, rendering the route between Whangarei and Kaikohe impassable.
The personnel of the teams which have been chosen to plav in the annual inter-islaml Rugby football match to be held in Wellington on Saturday is discussed in a special article by C. J. Oliver in the athletic i>ngcs. "On paper," he writes, "the North Island has a much stronger team, but the inclusion of ten All Blacks in the side does not necessarily mean victory." The busier time that is reported for hotel bars is considered by a special correspondent in an article in the news section. As complaints have been made that excessive drinking has followed the inception of the 40-hour week, the writer's survey is both topical and informative.
Notable among this week's magazine articles is an account of a visit to Maungapohatu, in the U rower a country.
