WRAPPING OF BREAD
PROBLEM CLUB DISCUSSION
An enjoyable afternoon was spent yesterday by about 150 members of the Problem Club, when their monthly gathering was held in the Penwomen's clubrooms. The discussion subject was " The Wrapping of Bread," and it was decided to forward a remit to Parliament asking that all bread in Auckland should be properly wrapped. This, it was stated, was done everywhere else in New Zealand, while in Australian bakehouses rules of cleanliness were much stricter than in this country. The remit also suggested that the weight of loaves should be fixed for fancy as well as for plain bread. Another topic of discussion was the welfare of the Maoris.
The speaker for the afternoon was Mr. T. C. Jones. Songs were contributed by Madame Vita Cornwall, the accompanist being Mrs. H. Bloy. The president, Madame Humphrey Stewart, took the chair, and also present were the secretary, Mrs. W. Lawson, and the treasurer, Mrs. G. Forster. Many useful articles were contributed by members to aid the work of the St. John Ambulance, Mrs. E. Cammell being in charge of these gifts. Badges of the club, whoso members pledge themselves to be good workers for women and children, were distributed, and bore the motto, " Through difficulties to the stars by courage, and faith."
