THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE - COLONIAL SUGARS FIRM A sharp fall in New Zealand Insurances and a rise in Colonial Sugars were features of trading on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. There was a heavy turnover, and the market generally displayed a much more confident tone than for some days. Government loans were firm and offers for several issues advanced. There was a steady demand for banks. Commercials of Australia gained 2d on sale at 15s sd, and holders asked 3d more at 15s Sd. Australasias were traded at the ruling level. A fall of Is 3d was registered by New Zealand Insurances, which were released at 68s 3d, with more available. Australian Provincials were transferred 3d higher at 21s 3d. In the loan and agency section business improved. United Buildings (Auckland) rose lOd to change hands at 20s 4d. Two parcels of North Auckland Farmers' (B preference) were done 3d better at 6s 3d'., Colonial Sugars registered a total gain of £2. selling first at £42 2s 6d and then at' £42 10s. Wilsons Cements improved 6d to sell at 395, but New Zealand Breweries eased by the same amount in business at 52s 3d. Farmers' Tradings rose 3d to sell at 7s 3d. New Zealand Newspapers sold at 3Ss 6d, 3Ss 7d and 38s 9d, a full rise of 3d, but Sun Newspapers were taken Id weaker at 8s 2d. Milne and Chovce debenture 6tock was 2s 9d lower in trading at 16s 3d. British Tobaccos were steady on sale at 35s 9d.
