ST. MARY'S HOMES
WINTER FAIR NEXT WEEK The annual winter fair of the St. Mary's Homes Association will be opened in the Town Hall concert chamber next Wednesday by Viscountess Galway. Since the foundation of the association 26 .years ago it has contributed more than £IO,OOO toward the funds of the homes, a substantial proportion of this amount having been raised by means of the winter fairs. In the conduct of the homes a lofty ideal is pursued, that of serving and preserving the mental and spiritual well-being of the patients as well as their physical welfare. A Church of England institution, the management is conducted by the Order of the Good Shepherd. Mothers of all creeds are cared for with a sympathy and understanding that knows no discrimination. The average expenditure on the homes in the past 12 years was about £3OOO a year, a burden undertaken in the interests of the community as much as in the interests of the mothers and children who come under the beneficent influence of the homes. It is the financial and practical assistance given by friends of the institution which enables it to continue its humane »nd valuable work.
