MISSION STEAMER'S MISHAP

.THE SOUTHERN CROSS,

VESSEL ARRIVES AT RUSSELL,

The Meianesian Mission steamer Southern Cross, which is returning to Auckland from Norfolk Island for repairs to her rudder, put into Russell yesterday morning. Rough weather was experienced on the trip to the New Zealand coast, and it was deemed advisable to adjust" the jury rudder which was fitted at Norfolk, before undertaking the last stage of the journey. It was at first expected the Southern Cross would reach Auckland yesterday, but she was delayed by strong northeasterly winds. It was reported from Russell yesterday that the weather there had been rough, but was moderating; All were reported to be well on board the small steamer. She left Russell at five o'clock last evening and is expected at Auckland about eleven this morning. 1
