THE FRANKLIN MEETING.

PROGRAMME OF NINE EVENTS

TWO RACES IN DIVISIONS.

The large number of acceptances received by the Franklin Racing Club for the Trial Handicap and Franklin Stakes, to bo decided at its meeting at Pukekohe next Saturday, has necessitated a division being mado in each of those events. This means that there will bo a total of nine races on the day's programme, instead of seven, as originally intended. The Trial Handicap will be run as one event, the dividends being paid on the winners only of' tho respective divisions. In connection with the Franklin Stakes, however, dividends will be paid on tho first and second horses in each division. The totalisator. therefore, will open on only eight occasions. The first division of the Franklin Stakes will be run as the fifth race, and the second division as the seventh

The stake money in the Trial Handicap It:i3 been increased from £l2O to £l5O, and half of tho latter sum will go to each division. In tho Franklin Stakes each division will be worth £l2O. The extra event on the programme will render an early start necessary, and the flrufc' race h«i9 been set down to commence at 11.15 a.m. Following are the divisions in the Tiial Handicap and Franklin Stakes:

CANTERBURY NOTES

WORK AT RICCARTON

SOME EXCELLENT DISPLAYS

[I!V TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

CH I! ISTCH URCH. Tuesday.

The chief interest at Riccarton this morning attached to the work of the junipers. Lancer and Aberfeldy were schooled over six hurdles. The pace was solid all the way and there was not much to choose between the pair at the last flight after a fine exhibition of jumping on the part of both horses.

Magna Charta had Charlatan an a. mate over three hurdles. Magna Charta gave a creditable showing, though he jumped a couple of the obstacles a trifle carefully.

Gold Mint and Zcuxis were associated over four hurdles, Gold Mint ran about at the first flight, but after that both horses jumped well at a fair pace. Kaikahu jumped the brush at the ton of the straight and the brush double. He went rather close to the first fence of the double, but recovered cleverly. It was an excellent performance, as it was the first time lie had been over brush fences.

D. Campbell has decided to take Battle Colours and Radiato to Auckland for the winter meeting to be held early next month, his present intention being to leave in about a fortnight. These two horses are very well. Battle Colours struck form in the autumn and he may win another stake before the end of the season. Radiate is working along quietly. He will not be schooled until he arrives at Kllerslie. but then will be given a little jumping over hurdles and over the fences in view of engagements in the Great Noithcin Iluidle Handicap and Great Northern Steeplechase. R. W. King was well pleased with Aberfeldy's performance in a school over stx hurdles this morning. The Quin Abbey gelding gave a good exhibition of fast and clean, jumping. It is almost certain he will be sent north for the Wanganui meeting next week. , , . _ T Lloyd has made a good recovery from his recent mishap. His broken collarbone has knitted well and he has made his reappearance on the Riccarton tracks to superintend the work of his team. The Absurd gelding Pascal is again under the care of F. P. Claridge and he will be got. ready for early spring engagements.

MARTON WINTER MEETING

DECISION BY COMMITTEE

[by TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

MARTON, Tuesday

Apparently the committee of the Marton Jockey Club was disappointed with the result of > its experiment in regard to a winter meeting, for it decided last evenina to revert to a two days' spring fixture. Application is being made for a permit for September 4 and 5 next. While the totalisator returns and gate receipts ou Saturday were better than those for the second day of last season's September meeting the stakes offered for a winter meeting are much higher than those for the second day of a spring fixture and the net result is'not as good,
