ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES

YESTERDAY MORNING'S WORK

BY ARCHER. Some interesting work was recorded at Ellerslie yesterday when a number of horses with engagements at the Franklin Meeting were galloped. Most of tho fast work was done on the outside of the course proper—flag.: being out 20ft. The No. 3 grass, the sand and tan were also available. while the jumpers had the use of the schooling hurdles in the middle. The tracks were slow though drying with the "wind. COURSE PROPER. First to work was Salamander, who strode over six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. So far Salamander has been a failure and track form does not suggest that he is improving, although he looks very well. The Franklin Cup candidates. High Pitch (Ludlow) and Modest Boy (light boy}, were associated over a round in 2.10. They were on terms at the finish and ran the last four furlongs in 5G '2-ss, both working nicely. Palmares (light boy) got a break of several lengths on Kuwainga (L. Manson) in the early stages and still held a slight advantage at the conclusion of six furlongs. 1.22 3-5. Kawainga was running on at the end.

Tho Lover (light boy) easily beat Thursby (L. Manson) over a mile in 1.18 2-5. They went fast early to run the first half in 51.2-5. and after that The Lover was always well clear. Thursby is an exceptionally bad worker, and 110 notice need be t.-ikcn of this effort. The Lover went well and would have run a better gallop with something to 1 carry him along

Lady's Boy was responsible for five furlongs in 1 .S. The two-year-old Wild Country assisted over tHe lost four furlongs, which were run in 535, and considering that she got the worst of the pick up went nicely. Lady's Boy is in fine order. Myola was better than Zane Grey over four furlongs in 53 3-ss. Myola was lame after working and may have to be cased up. Zane Grey was afterwards schooled over the pony hurdles and made a very satisfactory showing. AFTER BREAKFAST. Eager Rose covered a mile in 1.10 3-5. She was accompanied over the last four furlongs by her stable-mate, Theodolite, who is improving in condition each week. Bahama moved very freely over six furlongs in 1.20. The chestnut carries a bright appearance and would only have to race up to track form to give a good account of himself at Pukckohe. Dave reeled off four furlongs in 51 4-ss. The Lucultus gelding has not been lonsr in work, but is coming along nicely and does not appear to have lost any of his speed. Praetor was slightly better than Lady Suzanne over four furlongs in 51 3-5s Praetor disappointed at his last start, but will have a chalice to make amends in the Franklin Stakes. «

Otranto easily bent Ambrosia over five furlongs in 1.8 2-5 Good Boy went nicely over the same distance in 1.8. Roman Pearl and Mon Star were on terms at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.21. NO. 3 GRASS. Diamond Queen easily defeated Killute over six furlongs in 1.20 2-5. Diamond Queen is very well and should not lack condition for her coming encasements. War Officer was l-etter than Adjuster over a 'round in 3.53. They were afterwards schooled over (ho pony hurdles and both fenced cleanly Harbour View ran the last six furlongs of a round in 1.23 4-5. This gelding has shown no form lately, but is very bright and may do better in his next few starts, as he is partial t<- heavy going. Automne strode over six furlongs in 1.27 3-5. and Clockwork completed a useful task with four furlongs iu 50 3-5s

Standfast and Newboy strode along for six furlongs in 1.27 1-5. Failure to begin quickly lias cost. Standfast excellent prospects on several occasions lately. Any time he jumps out, decently he is likely to trouble ally hack field.

THB JUMPERS. Kamehameha (H. Dulieu). Master Doo'n (A. McNeil) and Sulla were associated in a bout over six hurdles, Kamehameha giving the best display. Sulla slipped on the flat and was nearly down, his rider making a fine recovery. He also hit the last fence hard, otherwise .he gave a satisfactory exhibition. Kauri Park (H. Dulieu) and Marita (J. •Sharkey) jumped six hurdles without mistake. Lady Spalpeen (J. Sharkey), who is now being trained by E.' l!ae. jumped a couple of hurdles boldly.

Sleepy Sol (J. Burgess) and Bayly Damon, after jumping a pony hurdle, were indulged in a bout over four hurdles, and both fenced fairly well. Sleepy Sol displayed plenty of dash and is shaping particularly well for a beginner.

NOTES FROM THE TRACK. W. H. Jones will l'ide Barometer, Chelone and Haviland at' I'ukekohe.

W. Gall has added to bis team a two year-old filly by Lucullus from Lad.v Bunyan

The hunter To Horea, who displayed promise when raced at the Pakuranga Hunt Meeting, is now under the care of R. Lewis. Tho chestnut bears an improved appearance and may be very useful in his class this winter.

Beau Cavalier was noticed walking exercise on the lead yesterday. It may be some days yet before he is ready to resume work as the wound on his near foreleg will take a while to heal thoroughly, and there is still a little filling in the joint. It is unfortunate that a mishap sliou'd cause his preparation to be interrupted at this stage, as he had been going along nicely.

It seems likely that Glendowie may have a couple of runs on tho flat before undertaking bis engagement in the Great Northern Steeplechase next month. He ia an acceptor for the Hi.ih-weight Handicap at Pukckohe, and is also entered for the Jervois Handicap on the opening day of the Auckland Winter Meeting. Glcndowio has not raced sinco he contested the Waikato Hunt Cup on Labour Da.y
