MAORI ACQUITTED.
FOUR SERIOUS CHARGES.
Two charges of indecent assault and two of common assault were preferred against Edward Howell, a Maori, of Turau (Mr. Garland), in the Supreme Court yesterday. The offences were alleged to have "taken place at Turau on March 3 and 4. At the request of the Crown prosecutor, Mr. Hubble, Mr. Justice Kennedy made an order clearing the Court. Tho" girl concerned was a Maori, 12 years of age. After a retirement of less than half an hour the jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
