MOUNT ALBERT COUNCIL.
PROGRAMME OF WORK.
SEWERAGE AND ROADING
The Mount Albert Borough Council met last evening, tho Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, presiding. After welcoming tho members, Mr. Rhodes said that tho council was in the middle of a comprehensive programme of work. There was a large area of tho borough still without sewerage, and many streets wore not yet permanently constructed. These matters should be dealt with during the next two years. If the loan for the improvement of reserves was carried it was tho duty of the council to begin the work as soon as possible, not only for the relief of unemployment, but also to provide playing areas, of which the borough was so much in need. Another question was that of the electoral roll. It was known to contain names of people who had left tho district many years ago, and on the other hand there were hundreds of people who were not on the roll. The council had no power to revise it, and ho would recommend that a new roll should be made.
A letter was received from tho Kingsland Business Association drawing attention to the nuisance of bicycle and trolley riding on the overhead bi'idge at Kingsland. Tho association also complained of the narrowness of the approach to the bridge. It was decided to co-operate with tho Railway Department with a view to having the approach widened, and the matter of bicycle riding was referred to the joint committee. On the motion of Mr. J. H. Langley, Mr. B. Brigham was elected deputymayor.
Tho building inspector reported that 47 permits, involving £12,882, had been issued during the month.
