DEBTS OF SCHOOL.
THE DARGAVILLE TROUBLE
RESIGNATION OF COMMITTEE.
COMMISSIONER APPOINTED.
Following protracted negotiation, the Auckland Education Board decided yesterday to accept the resignation of the Dargaville School Committee and to appoint Mrs. A. Gregory, of Dargaville, as school commissioner until the next annual election of school committees. Trouble between the two bodies arose some time ago when the committee notified it could not carry on vrith the allowance allotted to it, and requested an increase. The committee advised yesterday as follows:—"We absolutely refuse to act any further and we ate forwarding all books and accounts to your board. We are, therefore, taking no action in securing tenders for cleaning for the new year, and in addition sundry accounts ot £54, details of which your board already have, are still owing;." The Dargaville Borough Council wrote stating an amount of £69 12s 8d for work on the school tennis courts had been outstanding for 12 months, and requested an early settlement. Outlining the position the chairman, Mr. A. Burns, said the committee applied for an advance to . pay cleaners just prior to the holidays. The board decided to advance £23 out of the current quarter's allowance, leaving the committee £ls in credit It was ivident the committee could not, or would not carry on, and it would be advisable to appoint a commissioner
It was stated the Borough Council's account affected the old committee solely. The commissioner would not be required to honour any old debts. It was decided to appoint Mrs. Gregory, who was formerly on the committee, subject to hei acceptance.
