THE CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] OHAKUNE. Satuiday. The annual meeting of the OhakuneVairnarino Caledonian Society was held n Dyer's Hall, Mr. H. Fulton presiding ver a fair gathering. The chairman expressed the thanks of the society to the amorous supporters who had given ecuniary support to liquidate the debit alance of the fast \ ears.'Gratitude was also xtended to others for sterling assistance, specially to Mr. T. Hall, who was chiefly esponsible in obtaining a substantial list f guarantors for the current season. Mr. 'ulton was re-elected president. Patrons lected were: Messrs. R. W. Smith, M.P., . C. Goldfinch, W. Crighton and F. ■angstone. Mr. W. Curry was appointed scretary at an honorarium of £lO per nnum. A number of vice-presidents were iecteci and a strong committee of direc3i's. A letter was received from the Taiape Society requesting that the date of lie Ohakune Caledonian Sports be altered -om New Year's Day, but it was decided i reply that arrangements already in and did not allow for an alteration. At the meeting of the Borough Council lis week the Mayor, Mr. G. J. Goldfinch, xpressed satisfaction at the present state f the borough finances. It was resolved ot to hold an election for the purpose of Mr. Ford, whose seat had be--sitie vacant by absence. The electrical figineer's report disclosed that the slecical storm of October 19 had inflicted conderable damage to the power system, [e recommended the purchase of a new :t of arresters. Great interest is being taken in the idder matches of tl\e Ohakune Tennis lub, which has a large membership. A iries of competitions is contemplated beween Ohakune, Junction and Raetihi, ith a view to selecting a team tq chalTaumanrnui.
