■ CAMP SITE FOR MOTORISTS. ROAD MAINTENANCE SUBSIDY. [by TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] RAETIHI, Saturday. At a meeting of the Raetihi Borough Council this week a deputation waited upon the council with the object of obtaining the council's views on the question of granting a site for touring motorists. It' was suggested that the time was opportune to establish a camping site in Raetihi and that it would be of benefit to the town. The council eventually decided to grant a site for the purpose indicated an the reserve. The Reserves Committee Is to deal with the matter. The Bank of New Zealand informed the council that the whole of the amount of the £15,565 streets improvement loan had t>een subscribed. The Main Highways Board advised the :ouncil that it had decided to increase :.he subsidy for road maintenance from 01 for £1 to £1 10s for £l, the increased subsidy to take effect as from September 9," 1926. The increased subsidy s not ' being paid for the purnose >f relieving local authorities of their iabilities in connection with maintenance. Che board wishes all local bodies to con;inue to expend on maintenance the same mounts as they have done in the past. If his is continued the main, highways will ■eceive the benefit of the extra amount jaid by the Highways Board, thus entitling a better standard of road surface o be maintained. For the purpose of teaching physical culture, 'boxing, wrestling and field sports an •mateur athletic club has been formed. The allowing officers have been appointed:— 'resident, Mr. C. J.
