PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.
THE MODERATOR-DESIGNATE REV* J. AITKEN, OF GISBQRNE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COMJESpONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Sunday. Following a ballot at the session of the Presbyterian General Assembly, the Rev. James Aitken, of Gisborne, was yesterday elected moderator-designate of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. There was . one other nomination, that of the Rev. A. Bruce Todd, of Wellington. The result of the ballotwas: Mr. Aitken, 113 votes; Mr. Bruce Todd, SO votes. Subsequently the elec- * tion of Mr. Aitken was unanimously confirmed, and he was formally introduced to the moderator, the Rev. J. H. McNeur, who congratulated Mr. Aitken on his election, which was a tribute to the fine work which Mr. Aitken had carried out. Mr. Aitken has been in the services of the church in New Zealand for 28 years, during which time he has occupied four charges, Wyndham, Mosgiel. Khandallah arid Gisborne. Jlo has always taken a keen interest in work among the children, especially in his capacity as founder and editor of the magazine. Break of Day.
