JAPANESE SHOT.
OUTRAGE AT SHAMEEN. CONSUL ENTERS A PROTEST. (Eeccived 12.55 a.m.) Ecuter. PEKING. Jnne 20. A telegram from Canton states that Mr. Nakadai, Japanese treasurer of the Hukuai Hospital, was shot dead by an unknown Chinese outside the French gate at Shameen. The Japanese Consul notified the Public Safety Bureau and requested that police should be posted outside Shameen. He also made a formal protest and reserved the right to claim an indemnity. The Hukuai Hospital is a semi-official institution connected with the Formosa Government. The local authorities claim that the outrage was not connected with the present threatened , strike against foreigners. The Japanese Consul has advised nationals living iu Canton to go to Shameen.
