FEWER LETTER DELIVERIES
TELEGRAPH HOURS REDUCED

WELLINGTON. Monday. The Post and Telegraph' Department-, which has maintained hitherto its prewar service to the public, intends to bring about a curtailment of the facilities en- r joyed by the public at the beginning of" July." From that date the midnight clearance of posting boxes will not be continued. x lie latest clearances in city areas will be not later than 7 p.m., and at the same time clearances will be made at all the suburban offices. In residential and suburban areas there will be only two clearances daily, one in the mom-ng and one in the afternoon. Where there are ] now five deliveries of mail matter by j letter-carrier, there will he only thieo in j future where now there are three the new arrangement will provide for two. . and where now there are two one on.v , will be the new rule. It is intended to I make the first delivery at 9 a.m., so that I correspondence from the South may bo j delivered. The closing of mails at an 1 earlier hour is part, of the new arrange- 1 rnent. All inland mails usually closing I before 9 a.m. from July 1 will be. closed at 1 8 p.m. the previous evening, and mails i | closing after 9 a.m. at a time yet to bo | determined, but at a time not more tha"i | three hours before the departure of the 1 train or earner _ _ . Mails for beyond tho Dominion will ! clo?e as follows :—lf the steamer is to sail > before noon, at 8 p.m the day before: j if the steamer is to sail after noon, at a. ; time to be arranged, but not more than ] four hours before the departure of the ; steamer. Parcel mails for despatch will be closed 011 a similar basis. ! In the cities the post and telegraph ' office counter will not open until 9 a.m.. | and wi'l close at 8 p.m. In the money- ' order and savings bank branch the hours l will be those of commercial banks, i.e., ] jlO a.m. to 3 p.m. Where the telegraph i J is now open to the public from 8 a.m. j ! until midnight, in future it will be open \ ' from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. only.
