TERMS OF SETTLEMENT.

THE WAIHI AGREEMENT.

The agreement signed by the puPties to 1 the Waiiii engineers' strike provides for a- | wages clause which gives the engineers i fotirpence per day less than the original | award, but the hours of labour remain at : 45 per week as formerly, against 47 hours . e'sewhere. Wages will be paid 011 a daily I ba«is instead of on the hourly basis laid ' down 111 the amendment to which the enj gineers objected. , It is staled in the agreement that, the : union not having had an opportunity of ' expressing its views before the Court ill ■ I'tgard to the amendment to the award, the companies are willing to join the union in an application to the Court to have the . wages question reviewed, cither by the . full Court or by the Judge alone, and are 1 agreeable to the Court awarding the , approximate Auckland earnings, namely, £3 18s per week, or, in ether words, lis 8d i per day plus a war bonus of Is 4d per day. The hours of labour are to remain at : 45 per week, as this is an old-established j custom, instituted to bring the Ohinemuri j engineers into line with the shiftmen. The I companies have agreed, further, to pay ! wages art per the proposed amendment for I time worked from the date of the original 1 award.
