CELEBRATION IN AUCKLAND.
The s.ini anniversary of the birth of His .Majesty the King was celebrated quietly in Auckland yesterday. In accordance wiih His Majesty's expressed wish there \va- no ceremonial observance of the event throughout the. Empire. Flags were flown from the Government, municipal, ami other buildings in the e.ty. and a close holiday was observed.

I.aige numbers of < lti/.ens visited the various parks in city and suburbs, where, not withstanding the approach of winter, many of the flower beds are still resplendent with colour. Ail augmented train service was run, and dealt satisfactorily with race and holiday traffic. 1 lie houses of amusement in the city were well patronised. Matinees were hold at the Opera House, King's Theatre, and most of the picture theatres, in addition to the usual entertainment in the evening. At His Majesty's Theatre the staging of the drama One Summer's Day," by Auckland I amateurs, attracted a large house.
