MAJOR HURST. Major Hurst., wounded, -Has born at Opawa, Christcburch. He started his miii tary career in the Canterbury Highland Rifle?, and was for three years in that corps. He then joined the" C.Y.C., and rose to the rank of captain. When the main body of the Expeditionary Force vent away the C.Y.C. formed the first squadron of the Canterbury Mounted Regiment, and of this squadron Captain Hurst was second in command. At the Dardanelles, on the night of August 6, 1915, when the mounted brigade made the attack on Suvla, Captain Hurst went ahead with two troops of the C.Y.C Two days later he was promoted to major, and after the charge on August 21 he and Captain Blair were recommended for gallantry. On August 23, the major was wounded on the bead by shrapnel, and invalided to England. On recovering he had charge of an important camp,, But preferred to go bark to his regiment. SERGEANT MAJOR D.
