LOCAL BODIES' MEETINGS.
MOUNT ALBERT COUNCIL. AFFAIRS OF THE BOROUGH. A meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council was held last evening at the Council Chambers, the Mayor, Mr. Murdoch McLean, presiding. There were also present : Messrs. C. H. Page, R. Gisby, A. M. Wilson, G. Knight, J. H. Bradney, F. J. H. Harrison, H. L. Markv/ick and J. B. Clay. A letter was received stating that the City Council could not supply Mount Albert with electric lighting, owing to the price of cables and to the difficulty of obtaining the necessary plant. • The building inspector's report showed that three permits for the erection of dwellings representing a value of £1275, and four permits for additions and alterations -valued at £45, had been issued during the past three weeks. On the recommendation of the Finance and Legal Committee, it was decided that the granting of the remission of rates owing by soldiers should be subject to inquiries as to the financial position of the soldiers concernedi A 10 per cent, increase in wages on the basis of a working week of 47 hours was granted to the borough workmen, excluding engineers or engine-drivers. The erection of nine more street lamps was approved, and the Mayor's motion that trees should be planted on the site of the flushing tank was carried.
COUNTY OP OTAMATEA.
ROAD IMPROVEMENT LOAN.
At a meeting of the Otamatea County Council there were present: Messrs. R C Smith, W. T. Hunt, D. McCarroll,' (}'. W. Heslop, N. Finlayson, and J. Finlayson. The chairman, Mr. J. G. Coates, M.P., wrote resigning that position owing to his military duties requiring his undivided attention. It was unanimously decided to ask Mr. Coates to retain the position until his departure for the front. A letter was received from the Minister for Marine refusing the council's request for a wharf at Komiti at the present time. It was decided to raise a loan of £4750 for road improvements in the Wairau riding. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board notified that the levy on the council for the current year was £915 4s 3d, as compared with £612 10s last year. It was decided to apply to the Minister for Marine for a £ for £ subsidy, up to £25, for the purpose of widening and improving the Ruawai Wharf.
