BIG CAMP AT HAUTAPU.

MOUNTED RIFLES UNDER CANVAS

Arrangements for the Auckland divisional camp, which commenced at Hatitapu, two miles from Cambridge, yesterday, are now in an advanced stage (says our Cambridge correspondent), everything being in readiness to receive and accommodate the regiments as they arrive. The spot chosen for this year's camp is an excellent one, and sufficient space is available for carrying out the projected manoeuvres. Tho headquarters of the Auckland military district was established at the camp on Saturday and will remain so until Saturday, May 9. The officer commanding the camp is Colonel Robert Logan, A.D.C. The general staff consists of Colonel W. C. Braithwaito, D.S.O. ; Captain J. A. Wallj ingford. N.Z-S.C.; Lieut. H. R. All the troops will leave camp on Saturday, 6th May, except the 11th Mounted Rifles, who will leave on Monday, lltli May. i, Squadron 4th (Waikato) M.R. will arrive in camp at H'autapu "to-day. This section, which has been under canvas for three days last week at Whakatane, will march toßotorua and entrain there for the divisional camp at 'Havttapu. About 5000 of all ranks will bo in camp at Hautapu at the. end of this week. General Hamilton will arrive at the camp on Thursday, May 7. The Camp Supplies. Among the many things forwarded from the Defence stores, Auckland, to the Hautapu camp are as follows-66 indicating flags, 80 axes, 100 picks and handles, 800 water buckets, 800 w'ashhand basins, 82 picket ropes, 81 brooms, 5000 ground sheets, 13 Roberts cookers, 13 horse troughs, 20 overall suits, 1320 yds 2in galvanised iron piping, a 2000 gal. tank, 1 largo swimming bath, 1 ton galvanised iron. 11 tlagstaffs, 500 nosebags, 566 pairs boots. 455 mattress covers, 500 pairs blankets. A hospital and ambulance will be provided at the camp for both the mounted and infantry divisions, and six hospital marquees will bo erected. Eight medicine chests are being sent to the camp, and the chief medical officer will make arrangements for surgeons and medical officers to to bo in attendance. The medicine chests will each contain Iyd waterproof linen, lib boric lint, lib cotton wool, ldoz 2Jin bandages, ldoz 3in bandages, 1 metal catheter,'l2 ready-to-hand splints, and a dozen different kinds of pills. The total number of pills to bo sent to the camp is 24,000, 3000 in each medicine chest, so that any minor complaint may be readily dealt with. Camp Organisation. During the progress of tho camp an efficient corps of military police will operate both at the camp and in Cambridge. The Church of England Men's Society, Y.M.C.A., and Salvation Army each have marquees allotted to them, and officers representing these bodies are in constant attendance,. There are two dry canteens on the ground, conducted by a committee of the regiment*. The proprietor of a hippodrome has also established himself at the camp, with all the appurtenances belonging to a riding school. Attached to each regiment is a chaplain, medical officer, and veterinary surgeon.
