MOTOR.CAR CAPSIZES,

A DANGEROUS CORNER.

NARROW ESCAPE FROM FATALITY. [B7 mEGRAPH.-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Palmbrston North, Monday. A rather serious motor accident occurred on tho Fitzherbert East Road, not far from Palmerston, resulting in a taxi-cab driver- named Baldwin and four Territorials named Corporal K. Davison, LanceCorporal W. Spratt and Riflemen C. Gordon and W. Dixon, all of the 11th Regiment (Taumarunui), being more or less injured. According to the statement of an eyewitness the mishap occurred on the first bend of the road. The corner is sharp and it is alleged that the corner was being negotiated at a considerable speed, when tho driver suddenly found a trap in front of him. In endeavouring to pass this, the car slewed round and fell over a dip of several feet at the side of the road. One Territorial was pinned by tho wheel, the other three being buried under the car. Willing hands were soon at work freeing them and a passing motor brought- the injured men to town. Under the circumstances, the. occupants of tho' car had a narrow escape from fatal consequences. As it was the chaft'eur received an extensive scalp wound and an injury to tho left hip and right knee. One of tho Territorials sustained a broken nose and a severe cut on the forehead, a second a severe cut under the chin and* injury to the forehead, a third bad his faco, left knee and chest injured and the fourth had his head cut and his side injured. The wounds had practically all to bo stitched, and the injured soldiers procoeded to Takapau by the Napier express on Saturday.
