McKenzle has joined the Mokoia m fourth engineer in place of Mr. J. McLean, who has gone ashore at Wellington on sick leave. According to cable advice received from Sydney, the barque Helen Denny sailed for Wellington on Saturday last. A London paper announces that the Hungarian Levant line of steamships will shortly institute a new service for trade purposes between AustroHungary, New Zealand, and Australia. The fleet will consist at first of eight vessels. . Leaving Newcastle on Wednesday last for Duncdin and Lyttelton, the Whangape is due at Dunedin to-day. From Lyttelton she will proceed to Sydney with horses for tho April show there. Last evening the Mokoia left Napier for Gisborne, Tokomaru Bay, and Auckland. She has 1200 tons of cargo to discharge "here, and is duo to-morrow morning. The barque Aldebaran completed her loading of sawn timber lor Sydney yesterday. The vessel is loaded down to her Plimsoll mark with a cargo consisting of stores, produce, and timber. She is due hack at Auckland on April A. Owing to the congested state of the wharves at Sydney, the A. and A. liner ISoseric Is being delayed thero with the discharge of her cargo from New York. The local agents for the vessel expect her here some time nest week. She has 800 tons of cargo to discharge at Auckland. The barque Manurewa, which arrived in the stream unexpectedly on Monday night, was towed up to Chelsea yesterday morning. The vessel left tho Clarence Khar on February 10 with a cargo of hardwood for Greymouth, and after discharge loaded a cargo of coal for Auckland, but no intimation was given of the vessel's expected arrival. On completion of discharge the Manurewa proceeds to Whangaroa to load timber for Sydney. Cable advice received by the- local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company concerning the Tongariro is to the effect that the vessel arrived at Monte Video at 6 a.m. on March 7. She cleared Napier for London at midnight on February 15. The Oceanic Steamship Company has sold to the Alaska Steamship Company the steamer Mariposa, which for some, years has been running between San Franciso and Tahiti. The vessel's headquarters will be Seattle in future. Two years ago the Alameda, a sister ship, was transferred from the Oceanic to the Alaska Company. Tho Huddart-Furker steamer Victoria is to leave Sydney this afternoon for Auckland direct. The vessel is due here on Sunday next. The Huddart-Parker steamer Wimmcra left Dunedin yesterday afternoon for East Coast ports. Auckland, and Sydney. She arrives here on Sunday morning, and sails for Sydney on Monday evening next. AORAXGI LEAVES SAN FRANCISCO. Cable advice has been received by the Union Company advising that the R.M.S. Aorangi left San Francisco on Wednesday last for Wellington and Sydney, via Papeete* ami Rarotonga. She is duo at Wellington on March 23 and Sydney on April 2. , INDRABARAH AT MELBOURNE. Messrs. Heather, Roherton and Co., local agents for the Tyser Line, are in receipt of cable advico to the effect that tho steamer Indrabarah arrivt A at Melbourne on Monday morning from London after a passage of 43 days. After discharging there the vessel proceda to Sydney and then to Auckland, Napier, and Wellington! She may be expected here about March 27. MAITAI LEAVES NEWCASTLE. Advice has been received by the Union Company to the effect that the old San Francisco mail liner Maitai sailed from Newcastle at 8 a.m. yesterday with a cargo of coal for Auckland. The vessel is duo hero an, Saturday morning. Her future movements have not yet been disclosed. THE CLAN OGILVY. The Scales liner Clan Ogilvy arrived from Bunbury, via Southern ports, at 8 a.m. yesterday and berthed at the Railway Wharf. The vessel left Bunbury on February 2 ami discharged a part cargo of hardwood at Dunedin and Lyttelton, and then loaded a large quantity of produce at Southern ports for Auckland amounting to over 2000 ton3L She also has 240,000 ft of hardwood to put out here, after which she will be docked for cleaning and painting. The Clan Ogilvy subsequently loads wool and general cargo for London, and then proceeds to Wellington to put out the balance of her hardwood. She will complete her loading at Southern ports

THE KATTENTURM. The large German turret steamer Kattenturm, mooing' under the auspices ol the United Tyser Line, is now 52 days out on the voyage from New York to Melbourne, Sydney, and the four main New Zealand ports. The- -vessel has 4000 tons of cargo to discharge at Melbourne and 5000 tons at Sydney, the latter including 1000 tons of rails, so that she will undoubtedly be detained for some considerable time at the two ports. Her New Zealand cargo amounts to about MOO tons, 800 ton* of which is for Auckland. The local agents (Mew* t Heather. Roberton and Co.) expect the vessel here about the middle of April. THE MARAMA FROM VANCOUVER. The Canadian mail steamer Marania arrived at Auckland at 5.30 a-m. yesterday from Vancouver, via way ports, and after being granted pratique by the port health officer berthed at the Queenstreet Wharf. The purser (Mr. 0. H. Dodd) reports that the Marama sailed from Vaacouver at 1 p.m. on February 21, and arrived at Victoria (8.C.) at 6.50 p.m. the some day, resuming her voyage an hour later. She reached Honolulu on the morning of February 28, and after disembarking and taking on board passengers sailed again at 3 p.m. Arriving at Suva at 4 a.m. on March 8, further passengers landed and others joined the- vessel, departure being taken for Auckland at 7 o'clock the same evening. The voyage- from the Canadian port was uneventful, fine weather being met with throughout, while the vessel arrived at each of the way ports well ahead of time-table date. The Marama tailed last evening for Sydney direct, where she is due on Saturday morning. " She is Scheduled to leave Sydney again on the next outward voyage on April 8, arriving here on April 12 and sailing the same day for Vancouver, via. Suva and Honolulu. FAST SAILING. The barque Marjorie Craig, which arrived at Hokianga on Monday, and the barquentines Laura and Senorita, which arrived at Kaipara yesterday, have distinguished themselves by making very fast passages. The first-named vessel has on several occasions made passages equal to steamboat time between Australia and New Zealand, and the voyage just completed again stamps her as a flyer." The Marjorie Craig sailed from Warrnambool for Hokianga in ballast on March 3, and made the passage in the splendid time oi! eight days and a-half, and the round trip from Hokianga to the Australian- port and back in 48 days. ' The barquentine Laura has also put up a smart performance of 13 days from Newcastle to Kaipara. the vessel arriving there at 3.30 p.m. yesterday. She sailed from Newcastle on February 28. The barquentine Senorita, which also arrived at Kaipara yesterday, c.ado the passage from Melbourne in 18 days, she having sailed from the Victorian port on February 23. SUSSEX ARRIVES FROM LIVERPOOL. Shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday the Federal-Houlder-Sliire liner Sussex arrived from Liverpool, via Capetown, Sydney, and Newcastle. The vessel berthed at the Railway Wharf, where medical inspection was carried out by the port health oflicer. The Sussex brought 12 saloon and 50 third-class passengers for all parte of the Dominion, while her cargo for Auckland amounts to 3000 tons. The second officer reports that the Sussex left Liverpool on January 12 and experienced very heavy weather crossing the Bay of Biscay. Arriving at Las Palmas on January 20, the vessel' coaled and sailed the same day. Moderate weather was encountered on the run to Capetown, which was reached on February 7, and after coaling the voyage was resumed the following day. She ran the easting down in 45 degrees south, and met with strong westerly and south-westerly winds for the greater part of the passage to Sydney, which port was reached on March 4. After discharging there the steamer proceeded to Newcastle, and left that port at 1 p.m. on March 7 for Auckland, arriving as above after a fine weather passage across the Tasman Sea. Captain J. Clart is in command, and has associated with him the following officers:—Chief Mr. T. Grant; second, Mr. B. Card; third Mr G. Young; fourth, Mr. M. Rodney. Mr. D. Dick is chief engineer. Mr. B. Pearce second, Mr. R. DumbeJl third, Mr. G. Sinclair fourth, and Mr A. Aley filth, while Mr. W. Bisson is chief refrigerating engineer and Mr. D. McCray second. Mr. C. Smith is chief steward, and Dr. Osborne made the passage out as ship's surgeon. From Auckland the' Sussex goes to Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin, and the Bluff to complete discharge. She will then load at various Dominion ports for west of England ports, sailing finally about the middle of April.
