A MYSTERIOUS MESSAGE.
[BY telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.]
Wellington, Tuesday. A telegram from the chief postmaster, Auckland, has been received by the Secretary of the General. Post Office, Wellington, ' stating that the postmaster at Whitianga wires as follows :"Captain Pankow, of schooner Coronation, from Gisborne, reports that when 20 miles east of White Island, a carrier pigeon alighted on his ship On one leg of the. bird was found the inscription, 'N.Z., 1036* and on the other. '157.' He. begs me to..report in case some importance attaches to the bird. Strong west and south-west winds have been blowing here for the last two or three days, and I am inclined to think that the bird was blown out of its course." gggggggggggggggESSSSSSl
