Municipal Conference.
Wellington, This Day. The Municipal Conference adopted the ! report and also the Loan Conversion Committees report/ Upon the motion of Mr Swan of Napier it was resolved that the Assessment Court should not sit later than March 26, and that the comp'etion of tbe burgess roll should be extended until April 17. Mr Hale;of Timaru moved for the establishment of abattoirs in the various districts, each to slaughter on a different day, so that inspectors could visit them After considerable discussion amendments were carried referring the question to the executive. A deputation from the Municipal Conferenoe waited on the Premier to lay the results of the Conference before him. Witu respect to the loan conversion proposals he said that the Government had no intenlio • of going into tha matter at present, as it already had more in hand than U could get through. He admitted that it wonld be a great boon to the looal bedies, but he thought that there were some who did not taise loans who wou'd objeot to the scheme He oould not give way to the Conferenoe with respect to the proposal t. limit the voting of burgesses to one ward. The Government considered that this waa justified in order to stop faggott voting, ne oould not express any opinion at present as to the suggested amendments in the Municipal Corporat'ois Act. When the Government measure was brought down they would see how far their
I wishes were met.
